Scholarships, Incentives and opportunities

Duke CEE provides significant funding support to our PhD and master's students and encourages them to seek other support, awards and financial rewards available through the department, Duke and externally:

For PhD Students

  • Full Funding: PhD students receive 100 percent funding support, plus conference and travel support, for the duration of their studies (contingent on demonstrated progress toward the degree)
  • Application Fee Waiver: To prevent finances from being a barrier to applying, we will waive the graduate school application fee for eligible students. To find out more, contact graduate program coordinator Sara Faust
  • Dean's Graduate Fellowships: Students from underrepresented groups may receive a stipend during their first two years of study. Learn more
  • Departmental and Duke Awards: We encourage all graduate students to pursue competitive awards and financial awards available at Duke.
  • External Research Fellowships: We also encourage all PhD students to apply for competitively awarded research fellowships.

For Master's Students

  • Significant Scholarships: Duke CEE provides scholarships for all competitive students – typically ranging from $20,000-$30,000 More about our master's programs
  • Application Fee Waiver: To prevent finances from being a barrier to applying, we will waive the graduate school application fee for eligible students. To find out more, contact graduate program coordinator Sara Faust
  • Diversity Scholarships: Students from underrepresented groups may receive up to 50 percent per year in tuition scholarship. Additionally, up to $10,000 per year may be allocated for the student to gain experience in a research setting under the direction of a principal investigator (PI). Learn more
