Letter from the Chair, 2021

Dear colleagues,

First, a piece of news: I am truly delighted to share that Jerome (Jerry) Lynch will serve as the next Vinik dean of Duke Engineering. Professor Lynch, a noted smart infrastructure innovator, believes in engineering for impact—a value our school and university certainly share. We are eager to welcome him at the beginning of 2022 and look forward to what he will achieve here.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has much more to highlight in this digital magazine, including new energy research, students dedicated to making positive change, and the addition of two new faculty members, Gabriel Katul and Andrew Jones.
